1877 marked the beginning of not only a church, but of a dream 150 years in the making.
Construction of St. Mary Carmelite Church was completed in 1882. Located at 113 N. Ottawa St, on historic route 66 in Joliet, IL. Matching with the most prominent buildings in the area at that time, the church was made exclusively with Joliet limestone.
By 1939, St. Mary Carmelite was described as “having a larger membership than any other church in the city.”
Due to years of declining attendance, St. Mary was closed by the Archdiocese Joliet in 1991, and has been vacant since that time.
That all changes in the spring of 2026…
